Federal Skilled Worker Program

FSW 67-Point Calculator

The Federal Skilled Worker selection grid scores you out of 100, and you need 67 points to qualify. This is a separate assessment from your CRS score — it decides whether you can enter the Express Entry pool at all, not your ranking within it.

Language

CLB 7 in all four abilities is the minimum to apply — below that you are not eligible for the programme at all, whatever your total.

Each ability scores separately, so this is worth four times the per-ability value.

All-or-nothing: 4 points, and only if every ability reaches CLB 5.

Education

Foreign credentials need an Educational Credential Assessment first.

Work experience and age

Counts whether gained in Canada or abroad, including while studying or self-employed.

Assessed on the day IRCC receives your application. 18 to 35 all score the maximum.

Arranged employment

Worth 10 points here, plus 5 more under adaptability. Note this differs from the CRS, where job offer points were removed in March 2025.

Adaptability

Components total up to 40 points but the section is capped at 10, so a few of these are usually enough to max it out.

In TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3, with a valid permit or while authorised. Worth 10 points — the largest single item.

Full-time, in a programme of at least two years, in good academic standing. Worth 5 points.

18 or older, a citizen or permanent resident, and a parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, sibling, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew. Worth 5 points.

Unlocks the partner-related adaptability points below.

This is not your CRS score

The 67-point grid decides eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program. Once you are in the Express Entry pool, a completely different system — the Comprehensive Ranking System, scored out of 1,200 — decides whether you are invited to apply. Scoring well here says nothing about your CRS position.

The clearest difference: a job offer is worth 15 points on this grid, but zero on the CRS, where IRCC removed arranged-employment points in March 2025.

Below the 67-point minimum — 9 to go.

Meeting 67 points means you may qualify for the programme. It is not your CRS score and does not predict an invitation.

Scoring factors are not the same as eligibility criteria. A score here does not mean you qualify — you must separately meet every requirement of the programme. This is not immigration advice.

Federal Skilled Worker questions

No, and confusing the two is the most common mistake people make here. The 67-point grid decides whether you are eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker Program and can enter the Express Entry pool at all. The Comprehensive Ranking System, scored out of 1,200, then decides where you rank inside that pool and whether you are invited. A strong 67-grid score tells you nothing about your CRS position.

Because they are different assessments with different rules. On this grid a valid job offer is worth 10 points directly plus another 5 under adaptability, so 15 in total. On the CRS it is now worth nothing at all — IRCC removed arranged-employment points on March 25, 2025. Both statements are correct at the same time, which is why calculators that blur the two produce misleading numbers.

You are not eligible for the programme, regardless of your points total. CLB 7 in all four abilities is a minimum requirement rather than a scoring factor, so an applicant scoring well above 67 on everything else still cannot apply. Improving the language result is the only way past it.

The individual adaptability items total up to 40 points — spouse language, your Canadian study or work, your partner's, a relative in Canada, and a job offer — but IRCC caps the section at 10. In practice one year of Canadian work alone reaches the cap, so additional items in that section add nothing to your score.

It matters at the edges. Anyone from 18 to 35 receives the full 12 points, so within that band age is irrelevant. From 36 the score drops by one point per year, reaching zero at 47. For an applicant in their forties, those lost points often decide whether the 67 threshold is reachable at all.

For foreign education, yes — you need an Educational Credential Assessment from a designated organisation, and the Canadian equivalency it reports is what scores, not the credential as titled in your home country. Canadian credentials do not need an assessment. Applicants are sometimes surprised that a degree assesses lower than expected, which is worth discovering before you build a plan around it.
