Alberta PNP Points Calculator (Worker EOI)

The AAIP Worker Expression of Interest grid scores you out of 100: 69 human capital and 31 economic. There is no minimum score to submit an EOI, and Alberta runs draws by occupation and sector as well as by score.

Education

Language

Alberta scores English and French on different scales and awards the higher of the two, rather than adding them. CLB or NCLC 4 in all four abilities is the minimum to submit an EOI.

French scores lower than English at every band: 8, 5 and 3 against 10, 8 and 5.

Work experience and age

Alberta and elsewhere are scored separately and the higher applies — they do not add up.

Must be 18 or older. In-laws do not count. Worth 8 points.

Alberta job offer

Worth 10 points.

Worth 6 points for a designated community endorsement, or an employer in a qualifying sector association.

Calgary and Edmonton score nothing; anywhere else in Alberta scores 5.

Worth 10 points. Requires a recognised licence, or an Alberta Qualification Certificate for trades.

Alberta AAIP questions

No. You can submit a Worker Expression of Interest at any score. Alberta selects candidates using a combination of points, labour market needs, application volumes and available nominations, and runs draws targeting particular occupations or sectors — so a high score does not by itself predict an invitation, and a modest one does not rule it out.

Alberta uses deliberately different scales: English scores 10, 8 and 5 at CLB 6+, 5 and 4, while French scores 8, 5 and 3 at the same NCLC levels. The program scores both and awards the higher of the two rather than adding them together. There is a separate 3-point bilingual bonus if you reach CLB or NCLC 4 in both.

No. Alberta scores six months or more in the province at 10 points and six months or more elsewhere in Canada at 6, then awards whichever is higher. Someone with experience in both does not receive 16.

Yes. Job offers in the Calgary and Edmonton census metropolitan areas score zero for location, while a Rural Renewal designated community or any other Alberta community scores 5. A Rural Renewal endorsement can add a further 6 points on top.

A parent, child or sibling who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Alberta and aged 18 or over — worth 8 points. In-laws do not count. Candidates who submitted before 29 January 2025 and claimed a grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew can continue to claim it on that existing EOI.
